Award of £1,600 Seedcorn Funding
6th January 2026
Haldane Youth Services has been awarded £1,600 from the West Dunbartonshire Climate Hub Seedcorn Fund to launch a new community initiative promoting sustainability, reuse, and environmental awareness among local families and young people.
The funding will support a programme designed to make sustainable living visible, accessible, and fun for the whole community. At its heart is a commitment to:
- Promoting a culture of reuse
- Building young people’s confidence, leadership, and environmental awareness
- Strengthening intergenerational connections through shared activity
As part of the project, Haldane Youth Services will introduce a series of seasonal Swap Shops, inviting families, children, and young people to donate and exchange clothing, books, toys, and household items. These events will help reduce waste, support household budgets, and encourage a shift towards community‑led reuse.
To make everyday recycling easier, the organisation will also install new clearly labelled recycling and reuse bins throughout the building. These will help young people and visitors understand what can be recycled, how to sort materials correctly, and why small everyday actions matter.
Programme leads say the project will give young people meaningful opportunities to take the lead in planning, promoting, and running the Swap Shops, helping them develop confidence, teamwork, and environmental leadership skills.
“This funding allows us to bring sustainability to life in a hands‑on, community‑driven way,” a spokesperson said. “By creating fun, practical opportunities to reuse and recycle, we’re helping young people and families build habits that benefit both their household and the planet.”
